"Creme de la Wheat"
"Creme de la Wheat"  Made in Art Class, 2005
This framed mixed media collage is titled “Crème de la Wheat”. It’s on acid free, archival, heavy weight watercolor paper. Going into detail of the title for me, is very complex. I believe all my art is deep and unique like each of us. Not just what you might see on the surface like the photo’s, textures, and colors but it evokes feelings from a deeper personal experience.
This piece represents the different social classes in America. Something so simple and small as wheat, yet it satisfies everyone. Affluent and not. Some are rich and high-class, some poor, and uneducated. Some are working class, girls playing, serving, and studying. The women in this piece are all like wheat, whatever stage you look at it.
Another common theme is of the hats or roles that the women have. Just by looking at their hats, you already know so much about them. All the pictures of these women were found in old books and or are original antique photos from antique shops. I added different mediums here and there to make it more 3-dimensional. I used handmade papers and painted with acrylic in different areas. The piece is permanently sealed and should last forever.

"Innocence"
"Innocence" I made this patriotic piece based on my feelings of all the victims in the civil war of 1865, 2005
The theme takes place in the 1860's during the Native American/Civil War’s.
I have such a desire to paint for those people of the past without a voice. The so called underdogs, in-justices and tragedies in our history. It’s my way of getting people thinking, feeling, and then talking about sensitive and controversial issues so as a society, we don’t make the same mistakes.

This piece is on a 3 ft x 2 ft wrapped canvas. I used several old photos of western figures that I transferred on natural papers, antique harmonica sheet music, old maps, and handmade papers. I painted the famous native figure. I also added handmade stone jewelry, lace, metal button covers, and sewed in rusty vintage farm tools.
